About the Event

Steve Hale brings John C. Frémont to life with his live historical character portrayal. Frémont played a role in almost every pivotal American political and military event of the mid-19th Century. He was a pioneering Western explorer, millionaire gold baron, premature emancipator, Major General of Union forces in the Civil War, California Senator, Governor of the Arizona Territory, and the United States’ first Republican Presidential candidate.

His famous survey maps and journals, detailing his five pioneering Western expeditions into the vast unknown western Wilderness, mapped the paths over which thousands of immigrants and later the Gold Rush 49’ers labored westward seeking new lives and opportunity. Steve Hale of Comstock Characters has been presenting engaging reenactments of pivotal historical characters to audiences for over two decades in the Lake Tahoe region and West coast.

Comstock Characters has performed at National Parks, State parks in northern California, historical and Western festivals, statue dedications, non-profit fundraising events, dinner theater, commemorative events, interpretive programs, interpretive training, Chautauqua venues and in repertory with other Chautauqua performers. Now it’s time for them to bring the stage to life at the Reno Public Market as Steve Hale presents an incredible retelling of the influential pioneer of the west coast and ultimate historical figure.
